The department receives referrals from across the country and has close working ties with other hospitals. We treat the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders affecting children, including:
• Brain and pineal tumours
• Cranial and spinal trauma
• Craniosynostosis and craniofacial surgery
• Tone management surgery and selective dorsal rhizotomy
• Complex hydrocephalus and neuroendoscopy
• Vascular disorders
• Spina bifida
We provide numerous sub specialist clinics and MDTs and have close collaborative relationships with other paediatric specialists.
We are a team of 4 fellowship trained consultant paediatric neurosurgeons and dedicated Advance Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. The department also has a well developed paediatric neurosurgery fellowship programme.
The Major Trauma Centre and other tertiary paediatric services are housed in RHC including a dedicated PICU and NICU units with maternity services on site.
In addition to providing an excellent clinical service we provide outstanding educational opportunities for both undergraduate medical students and clinical trainees. In collaboration with the Glasgow Neuro Society, this includes visiting lectures from the worlds top neurosurgeons including the previous director of paediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, Professor George Jallo; the current chair of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins, Professor Henry Brem; and the worlds leading neurosurgeon in craniopagus twin separation, the late Professor James Goodrich
The department has been the subject of several documentaries which has showcased some of the outstanding work undertaken by our team
The department, often in collaboration with the Glasgow Neuro Society, has hosted some of the worlds leading neurosurgeons including Professor Henry Brem from Johns Hopkins in 2016.
"Thank you for arranging a perfect visit. It was wonderfully organised and the program was outstanding. The meeting was one of the best neurosurgical meetings I have participated in. It brought together expertise over a wide range of subjects. Thank you again for such a wonderful visit."
