About
The Department of Neurosurgery in Glasgow has a long history of providing Neurosurgical services to all age groups. In the past, all consultants had mixed practices in adult and Paediatric Neurosurgery. Mr. T.A.H. Hide was the first Glasgow Neurosurgeon to concentrate on Paediatrics as a subspecialty and along with Mr. Ian Jackson and later Prof. Khursheed Moos developed the first specialist Craniofacial surgery service in the UK.
Following Mr. Hide's retiral the service grew from a practice led by Miss Brown and joined by Mr St George with mixed adult and paediatric practices. These individuals were supported by a department whose other members continued to provide emergency out of hours cover as well as joint working where subspecialist input was required. This worked very well when Paediatric Neurosurgery was co-located with the adult Neurosurgical service at the Institute of Neurological Sciences on the Southern General Hospital site.
The Paediatric Neurosurgical service was relocated to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill site in March of 2012. The move sparked a new direction in the development of the Paediatric Neurosurgical service in the West of Scotland.
With the opening of the Royal Hospital for Children in June 2015. The service relocated to this campus
The service is staffed by 4 consultants. A Neurosurgery Outreach Nurse works closely with the team and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner is in post.
