Glasgow Paediatric Neurosurgery

Fellowship

The Paediatric Neurosurgical Fellowship in Glasgow was established in 2013. The fellowship provides post CCT subspecialty training across all aspects of Paediatric Neurosurgery. The fellow will also gain exposure to craniofacial surgery

The fellowship programme runs for a year with potential extension to suit the individual candidate's needs.

The fellow is committed entirely to the Paediatric neurosurgical service. They are expected to perform in the role as a "Consultant" under the direct supervision of the current Neurosurgical consultant team. Their on call commitment is on the consultant rota (with one of the consultant staff acting as a direct back up)

They are expected to be involved in the training and supervision of the Neurosurgical registrar that rotates through the department as part of their training

Fellows contribute to the audit and research of the department and have the opportunity to publish and present work from the department at national and international meetings.

All our previous Fellows have gone on to become successful and well established practitioners in the Paediatric Neurosurgical community.

We aim to produce a candidate who will have a well-established base in Paediatric Neurosurgery and who will go on to provide excellent care for paediatric neurosurgical patients

The department, in conjunction with the Glasgow Neuro Society, has also hosted some of the worlds leading neurosurgeons for educational visits including Professor Henry Brem, Director of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins; Professor George Jallo, the then Director of Paediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins; Professor Robert Martuza, the then Chief of Neurosurgery at Harvard; Professor Charlie Teo from Australia; and the late Professor James Goodrich from New York.

See the below video from a BBC documentary for an insight into the departments work
